“I have been fortunate in that I have enjoyed times when others expressed that they were proud of me. These instances were always powerful but, in most cases, the initial positive energy of these events faded over time. However, I can remember with complete clarity all the beautiful moments and the looks on the children’s faces when I showed them how proud I was of them. These emotional transactions taught me that the gift of pride, so unilaterally unattainable yet dramatically impactful, is clearly one that is better to give than to receive.”
